About the work
In all the works of Karel Buskes perception is a recurring important element. Although his art is visual, his work seems to appeal to the other senses as well in his work, especially the sense of touch. Just as a child initially discovers themselves by discovering the world around them, by smelling, by tasting and by touching, so seems Buskes to search for the intrinsic sense of excistence through perception. Be it in the damp nose of a cow, a barefoot walk through the woods, or the skin of a person in a portrait, there excists a longing to touch and to be touched, in every sense of the word.
